Constitution Party activity revs up in Louisiana.....
After attending the triumphant 2007 Texas Constitution Party on Saturday, your field director made tracks eastward to Baton Rouge for a meeting with Constitution Party activists in Louisiana Sunday afternoon.
I am happy to report that definite progress is being made in the bayou state. A state organizing convention is now set for August 4, 2007 in Lafayette. It is anticipated that, at that time, the Louisiana Constitution Party will formally organize by electing officers and adopting by-laws and will take all of the preliminary steps necessary to apply for affiliation with the Constitution Party national committee at its next meeting in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Louisiana Constitution Party activist group is already engaged in a registration drive to qualify the party for the ballot by procuring 1,000 registered voters. Hopefully the party will be able to achieve this goal by 2008, but if they should fall short there is a very easy alternative method of qualifying the party's nominees for President and Vice-President for the ballot. One way or the other the Constitution Party of Louisiana will definitely be actively participating in the 2008 campaign in a very competitive manner.
...and Arkansas!
Following the meeting in Baton Rouge it was on to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a meeting on Monday evening with Tom Mayfield, chairman of the Constitution Party of Arkansas and members of the party's board of directors. The Arkansas state party attained its affiliate status at the recent national committee meeting in Boise, Idaho. Our Arkansas affiliate is currently gearing for a petition campaign to secure ballot status for the Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominees of the Constitution Party in 2008. One thousand valid signatures are required to put the party's Presidential ticket on the ballot in Arkansas.

On Tuesday evening Tom Mayfield and I appeared on a local public access television program in Fayetteville. Tom did a great job promoting our party and its principles! Public access television is, by the way, a resource that all state parties should look into as a free or very low cost way of promoting the the party and increasing its outreach.
Tom Mayfield has shown great leadership in getting the new Constitution Party of Arkansas up and running in a very short amount of time. We are very fortunate to have him working for the cause in Arkansas! Not only is Tom providing leadership in Arkansas, but he is already a committed team player who is looking forward to attending and participating in his first CP national committee meeting in Council Bluffs, Iowa October 25-27 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
It's been a very encouraging whirlwind visit to this portion of the South, where the Constitution Party is definitely on the rise. My thanks go out to everyone along the way who has made this trip comfortable and productive. In particular, I would like to thank Tom and Sara Mayfield for their great hospitality. In fact, I doubt that I will ever hear the term "southern hospitality" again without thinking about them.
